Handlers is not open yet. Today the only personal information we hold is what people give us to join the early-access waitlist, plus a little we work out from the visit itself. This page says exactly what that is.
Who we are
Handlers is a Namibian on-demand skilled-trades platform, based in Windhoek and launching with cleaning and gardening. For anything on this page, write to ross.torqueagency@gmail.com.
What you give us
The waitlist forms ask for:
- Your name, email address and — for handlers, required; for customers, optional — your phone number.
- The area of Windhoek you are in.
- For handlers: your date of birth, your main trade, years of experience, an optional short description of your work, whether you have your own transport, and when you are available.
- Your date of birth is used for one thing: checking you are 18 or over, which you have to be to work as a Handler. If you are not, the application is refused on the spot and nothing you typed is saved — not your name, not your email, not the date itself. All that is recorded is that one application was turned away that day, with nothing attached to it that could identify anyone.
- For customers: whether it's for your own home or a property you manage, how often you use this kind of service, and an optional budget range.
- Optionally, how you heard about us and how you would prefer to be contacted.
Everything marked optional above can be left blank and your signup still works.
What we work out on our own
Two things are derived from your visit rather than typed by you, and it is fair that you know about them:
- A rough location. When you submit a form, your IP address is sent to a third-party lookup service (ip-api.com) which returns a city, region and country. We store that city/region/country. We do not store your IP address itself.
- A device type. Your browser's user-agent tells us whether you were on a phone, tablet or computer. We store that one word, not the full user-agent.
We use both to understand which parts of Windhoek are asking for this and whether to build for phones first. If the lookup fails, your signup goes through anyway.
Where you came from
If you arrive through a referral link or a campaign link, we record the referral code and the campaign tags in the address (the utm_ values), along with the page that linked you. These are stored in your browser until you submit the form so the person who referred you gets credited. It is not advertising tracking, and there is no advertising network on this site.
One thing is sent before you submit. The first time you type in either form, we record that a form was started, together with those same campaign tags and a random number that identifies the visit rather than you. It tells us how many people start a form and do not finish it, which is the only way we can tell that a form is too long. It contains no name, email, phone number or anything you typed, and if you never submit the form we have no way to connect it to a person.
Why we hold it
- To review your application or signup and decide whether to approve it.
- To email you when you are approved, and to tell you when the app launches.
- If you gave us a phone number, to message you on WhatsApp about your application or about early access — sent by a person, not an automated system, and never for anyone else's marketing.
- If you ticked the box asking us to, to show your first name, trade and area on this website. Only those three things, never your contact details, and you can ask us to take it down at any time.
- To work out where demand is, so we open in the right areas first.
- To credit whoever referred you.
- To see how many people start a form without finishing it, so we can fix it.
- To count votes for which trade we should add next. That vote is stored on its own, with no name, email or link back to your signup — we can tell you which trade won, and we could not tell you who voted for it even if we wanted to.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
Who else touches it
We keep the list of services that handle your data short on purpose. Today it is:
- A website host and an application host, which run this site and our servers.
- A managed database provider, where the waitlist is stored.
- An email delivery service, which sends the confirmation and launch emails.
- The IP lookup service described above, which sees your IP address at the moment you submit and returns a city.
When bookings and payments go live, a payment provider will be added to this list and this page will be updated before that happens.
How long we keep it
Until you ask us to delete it, or until it is clear the waitlist has served its purpose and we retire it. If your application is turned down, we keep the record so that the same application isn't reviewed twice and so we can tell you why if you ask.
Your choices
- You can stop the emails at any time. The launch announcement carries a one-click unsubscribe link; for the confirmation email, reply to it or write to ross.torqueagency@gmail.com. Either way we record that you have opted out, and it does not take you off the waitlist.
- To stop WhatsApp messages, reply STOP to any of them or tell us by email, and we will not message that number again.
- You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely — email ross.torqueagency@gmail.com and we will action it.
- Deleting your record removes you from the waitlist, including any launch credit or Founding place attached to it.
Children
Handlers is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly keep information about children. If you believe a child has signed up, tell us and we will remove the record.
Changes
This is a pre-launch policy for a pre-launch product. It will change — most obviously when bookings, payments and handler verification go live. The date at the top is when it last did. See also our Terms.
